A man who was arrested following the death of a 10 -year -old girl was released under investigation.
Poppy Atkinson, from Kendal, was killed when a car crashed on a sports field at Kendal Rugby Union Football Club on Shap Road on Wednesday (March 5).
A second child, an eight -year -old girl from Kendal, was also taken to the hospital to be treated, but her injuries were “deadly” on Thursday (March 6).

A 40 -year -old man from Lancaster was arrested for suspicion of having caused death by dangerous driving following the incident.
He has since been released while investigations continue to establish the complete circumstances of this incident.
In a statement following the accident yesterday, the police said: “There is no indication to suggest that this incident was a deliberate act”.
Poppy’s family has since paid tribute to the budding footballer saying that they “will never be whole” after his death.
In a statement published yesterday (March 6), they said: “Poppy touched so many lives, it was easy to see why, his energy, his character, his spirit and his passion for football were infectious and touched a large number of people.
“The hole in our lives and so many people around us that Poppy leaves is enormous, we will never be whole again. This world has lost a spirit like the others, it was a force of nature. It was so special, it was too good for this world,” they said.
One of Poppy’s idols, the star of England by Origin Barrow, Georgia Stanway, also went to social networks to pay tribute to the Manchester United fan, 10.
“The world of football will always remember Poppy and mine and Ella Toone the next match will be designated in honor of Poppy,” she said.
The GT7 Football Academy, which organizes training sessions at the Rugby Club, said they were “deeply in distress and saddened by events”.
In a declaration on social networks, a spokesman said: “Liked and respected by all coaches, his teammates and the whole GT7 family. Poppy was a brilliant light, always played with an infectious attitude to improve and a smile.
“Our hearts go to his family and all affected. The whole GT7 family shares their sorrow.”
