Cynthia Erivo was slammed by Marvel fans.

South Londoner Cynthia Erivo is renowned for her theatre work. She recently played the green Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, in Universal’s 2024 Wicked movie adaptation.

She has now set her sights on another role, which she admitted to wanting to play during an interview at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York.

Erivo asked, “Is there another dream role out there that you want to manifest right here?”

“I want to play Storm,” she replied.

“I know it sounds frivolous, but I think we haven’t uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil that she has,” Erivo explained.

“So, I think there’s a world in which we could do something with that.”

However, some fans of Marvel’s Storm are not convinced, adding that she would be an “awful choice”, with many demanding Halle Berry, who was the original live-action Storm, return to the role.

Additional divided fans have also mentioned Alexandra Shipp, who played the younger version of Storm most recently and even displayed the comic-accurate white mohawk.

Marvel fans on Facebook also shared their thoughts online, with one writing on the social media platform: “Nobody wants that but her.”

“No… no…. And again No!!!!!” another wrote.

“Some people are just not meant for certain roles.”

“She has shown contempt and disdain for her fans,” another fan claimed.

“How will she treat Marvel fans?”

One other fan believes she is just not as good as Halle Berry: “She is NOT Ororo! Halle Berry played a good Storm.”
