The child dies and another injured after the car led to the sports field

One child died and another was injured after a car was driven on a sports field in Cumbria.

Police said they were called at 4:58 p.m. for information reporting a collision involving a BMW i40 and two children on field at Kendal Rugby Union Football Club on Shap Road in Kendal.

Cumbria police said that a child has died, while the second is treated with paramedical paramedics.

An aged man in his forties was arrested for suspicion of having caused death by dangerous conduct.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: “Specialized investigators are on the scene and the region has been completed as initial surveys take place.”

The force said that the incident was not considered to be linked to terrorism. Immediate members of the family of two children were informed, he added.

In an article on its Facebook page, the club said it was “deeply saddened to confirm that an incident occurred today at the Kendal Rugby Club”.

The position, assigned to the club president, Dr. Stephen Green, continued: “Our thoughts go to their family and friends and we kindly ask for privacy for all the people involved during this difficult period.”

The club and its facilities are now temporarily closed while it cooperates “fully” with the authorities, he added.
