Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine

At first, I felt that the opening scene of Deadpool & Wolverine undermined Wolverine’s legacy, especially after his heartfelt farewell to Logan. However, learning about Ryan Reynolds’ creative vision behind the sequence has softened my stance. The film promised chaos, irreverence, and a heavy dose of meta-humor as these beloved Marvel characters entered the MCU—and it certainly delivered, starting with an audacious introduction.

The opening scene wastes no time making an impression. In his signature unpredictable style, Deadpool digs up Wolverine’s grave—a moment that initially felt like a blatant disregard for the emotional weight of Logan’s conclusion. He then goes a step further, wielding Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton as a weapon while fending off TVA agents in the middle of a frantic, time-hopping sequence, all set to the infectious beat of N-Sync’s “Bye, Bye, Bye.” On the surface, this moment seems almost disrespectful, but the careful craftsmanship behind it proves that Reynolds and the filmmakers understood the gravity of what they were doing. While the scene initially felt like a jab at Logan, it ultimately fits within the film’s playful, self-aware nature.
