Anika Noni Rose is speaking out following Disney’s decision to cancel Tiana.
On March 11, the actress, who voiced Princess Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, addressed the company’s move to scrap the animated series centred on the iconic New Orleans character.
In an Instagram statement, she shared, “Last week, the news broke about the cancellation of the Tiana series. I’ve received an outpouring of messages filled with kindness, support, and deep disappointment.”
Rose expressed her own disappointment, stating, “I too am deeply hurt that Tiana’s journey in series form has been cut short.” She acknowledged that the long-awaited adaptation had involved “a lot of beautiful work” from talented creators and was something fans had eagerly anticipated.
She went on to say, “As painful as it is for something you’ve poured your heart into to end prematurely, my hope is that when the ‘Tiana Special Event’ airs, all the wonderful, supportive, loyal fans who’ve been rooting for not just the series, but a Princess and the Frog sequel, will tune in.”
The actress encouraged fans to spread the word to their friends, family, coworkers, and even babysitters who loved the original film, urging them to “show your love and desire in the numbers” and make their passion for the project clear and undeniable.

“Until then, we will continue working hard to bring you the most beautiful content we can,” Rose said, expressing gratitude for her fans’ unwavering support.
Earlier this month, PEOPLE confirmed that Disney had cancelled Tiana, the animated series that was initially set to focus on the characters from The Princess and the Frog.
Though the series is no longer happening, Disney is developing a separate short-form special inspired by the original movie. While details remain scarce, the short will feature new storytelling, with Joyce Sherri writing and directing, alongside Steve Anderson.
This shift in plans aligns with Disney’s evolving animation strategy, as the studio moves away from creating long-form streaming content.
