At the time, Sabrina stayed silent about the backlash, but she channel ed her feelings into her music. Because I Liked a Boy has often been seen as her response to the negative attention, and now, Sabrina has opened up about the emotional space she was in when she wrote the track.
Sabrina Carpenter took a moment to share a deeply personal experience with her audience: “I want to begin by saying that the song I just performed, the one you all sang along to so loudly that I could barely hear myself, was written during a very low point in my life. Back then, I never could have imagined that I’d be performing it for a crowd of 20,000, let alone 10 people.”
She went on to express her gratitude, adding, “Thank you so much. I’m feeling emotional right now, and I almost teared up, so this really means the world to me. It’s just so surreal.”

When I wrote it, I never thought it would resonate this deeply, and I’m truly grateful for that.”
