Everton has announced several modifications to the way the club will be directed under the Friedkin group, Angus Kinnear arriving as CEO of Leeds and Kevin Thelwell leaving as director of football when his contract expires this summer.

The new owners of Everton intend to put an end to the director of the football model and to go to a “broad sports leadership team”. Thelwell has been director of football since 2022 and has helped lead the club through a turbulent period under Farhad Moshiri, including two deductions from points and serious financial constraints, but will leave at the end of the season.

“I am extremely proud of what we have achieved in the most difficult circumstances in the past three years and I think I will leave the club in a much stronger position than when I joined in 2022,” said Thelwell.

Senior appointments to the new sports management team will be announced in good time. Everton has been without permanent director general since Denise Barrett-Baxendale has left in the middle of fans’ demonstrations in June 2023. Colin Chong acted as an acting CEO since then and has to stay with the club supervising the new stadium of Bramley-Moore Dock, the regeneration of its surrounding area and the future of Goodison Park.

TFG’s search for a new CEO ended with the appointment of Kinnear, who has been playing Leeds since 2017. The 47 -year -old player, who also works for Arsenal and West Ham, will start working with Everton on June 1. A club press release said: “Summer transfer window planning is already underway, directed by the sports department and David Moyes.”

Everton also announced the departure of his head of longtime advertising and communications, Richard Kenyon.

Meanwhile, Moyes confirmed that he wanted Séamus Coleman to stay in Everton next season to a certain extent, and potentially led the team for his first game at the new club stadium.

Coleman is without a contract at the end of the season and was only limited to only four mandate by various injuries. But the 36 -year -old is a big influence behind the scenes, helping Leighton Baines to take the team against Peterboroughin the FA Cup after the dismissal of Sean Dyche, and Moyes thinks that he can still make a precious contribution.

“You do not keep people just to keep them, but if we had our way, we were trying to keep Séamus certainly,” said the manager of Everton, who signed Coleman for £ 60,000 from Sligo Rovers 16 years ago. “We must see what he wants and we have not made a decision on what we are going to do. Séamus could be a great person to have as more who, if he did not play all games, could be able to play under 21 years of age.

“There are many teams that have opted for this kind of thing. He could also be a coach with young boys if that’s what he chooses to do. For me, Séamus taking the injuries is the problem. We had too many injuries and I don’t want us to have an emergency service here. I think clubs in bigger problems tend to have too many injuries. »»

Moyes, however, agreed that it would be appropriate for the last Everton captain at Goodison Park to be the first of the club at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. “Absolutely, and sometimes you have to do the right thing,” he said. “Séamus could be required to do this job and he could always be one of the best. I don’t think age in football is as important as years ago. »»
