The widow of the Rugby League star Rob Burrow must run the London marathon in what she described as a “testimony to her lasting heritage”.
Lindsey Burrow will organize the course of 26.2 miles in April in tribute to her deceased husband in June 2024, five years after her diagnosis with neural disease.
Among the runners will also be the daughter of the BBC diffuser, Bill Turnbull, who died in 2022 after suffering from prostate cancer.
Flora Turnbull and Ms. Burrow, 42, will collect funds for charitable works and hope to help the tens of thousands of runners beaten last year last year from 73.5 million pounds sterling.
Ms. Burrow, who will run alongside Brother Mark, said that running the marathon is “not only a physical challenge; It is a deeply personal journey of love, loss and resilience ”.
“Each mile I run is a testimony to its lasting heritage,” she added.
It will collect funds for the charity of Leeds Hospitals and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, the official charity of the former Burrow club.
Her husband was diagnosed only two years after his retirement from a 17 -year career for the Rhinos of Leeds, where he won 13 trophies, including eight Super League titles.
He helped collect more than 15 million pounds sterling for MND’s charitable organizations and was appointed CBE by the Prince of Wales in 2024, five months before his death.
Ms. Turnbull will collect funds for the United Kingdom Cancer prostate in her father’s memory.

The diagnosis of his father was made public in 2018, leading to an increase in diagnoses across the United Kingdom. This was labeled by Prostate Cancer UK as “the Fry-Turnball effect” also referring to Sir Stephen Fry, who was diagnosed the same year.
A year after Turnbull’s death in August 2022 at the age of 66, the number of prostate cancer references within the NHS reached a record.
The London TCS marathon takes place on April 27.
